Pauline Kekahuna & her Hau'oli Girls

Pauline Kekahuna was born as Esther Pauline Ka’ilihao Kaleikini on December 29, 1919.
When she married James Kimo Kekahuna, she became Pauline Kekahuna.
Pauline founded the “Hau’oli Hula Studio” and the “Hau’oli Girls” music combo.
She also played guitar with a bevy of the era’s brightest stars of Hawaiian music and dance.
Today, we’ll listen to favorite recordings from a brand new CD from Cord International featuring restored acetate recordings from the 1950s of Pauline Kekahuna & her Hau’oli Girls.

Harold Hakuole

Harold Kaheakulani Haku’ole was born on August 8, 1930 in Honolulu, and we lost him at the age of 80, on Novemeber 30, 2010.
A graduate of St. Louis School, he excelled at several instruments in the Crusader club band.
By day, Harold worked for Pan American Airlines and the Kamehameha Schools, but at night he pursued his true passion – Hawaiian Music !
He made everyone around him sound better.
Harold Haku’ole is one of the 2015 Inductees into the Lifetime Achievement Awards of the Na Hoku Hano Awards.

Puamana

Once upon a time, there was a beautiful Farden family home in Lahaina named “Puamana”.
Irmgard Kealiiwahinealohanohokahao Puamana Farden was born on October 7, 1911, and raised within music-filled gatherings of family and friends.
In 1935, Irmgard composed “Puamana” at their home.
After performing and composing for years, she formed a group named, “Puamana” in 1974 with 2 of her daughters and a niece, recording 2 memorable albums in the 1980s.
“Puamana" is one of the 2015 Inductees into the Lifetime Achievement Awards of the Na Hoku Hano Awards.

Jimmy Moikeha

James Leroy Lanakila Mo’ikeha was born on the island of Maui on December 6, 1935, the eldest of Solomon K. and Amy H. Cockett Mo’ikeha’s 5 children.
Jimmy 1st sang in public at the age of 5, and was soon winning Maui talent contests.
In 1947, he recorded 6 78-rpm discs for the 49th State Record Company, which were played on the radio by J. Akuhead Pupule in Honolulu.
As an adult, Jimmy juggled a career in hotel management while he continued to perform.
In 1963, he recorded an LP for Danco Records, featuring the original recording of “Behold La’ie”.
Jimmy Mo'ikeha is one of the 2015 inductees into the Lifetime Achievement Awards of the Na Hoku Hanohano Awards.
